How to make Dalgona Coffee?

Here is the complete list of ingredients and tools you will need to successfully prepare a good-looking Dalgona coffee.

Kitchen Tools & Utensils for one Dalgona Coffee prepared:

  • 1 bowl for whisking
  • 1 Whisker, manual or electric (prefer the powered one, it’s easier!)
  • 1 table spoon for measuring
  • 1 cup of coffee cup or a glass.

I personally prefer using a transparent glass to serve my Dalgona coffee. The taste of the coffee is obviously similar in a cup or a mug, but you do want to see this incredible brown mousse sitting on top of your milk. So a glass simply gives a better presentation.

List of Ingredients:

  • 2 tables spoons of sugar: white or brown, brown sugar gives an extra layer of caramely taste
  • 2 table spoons of instant coffee: your favorite brand if you have one, or go for good one preferably. Take the most expensive one at your local store. Instant coffee is so inexpensive, you might as well make sure it is made from decent coffee to start with. Your resulting Dalgona coffee will be less bitter, with subtler and more enjoyable coffee notes, not just about bitterness which can be quite strong in a Dalgona.
  • 2 table spoons of hot water
  • 1 glass of milk: to your preference: full-cream, skimmed, semi-skimmed, vegan, almond or soy milk.

I personally prefer the creaminess of a semi-skimmed milk

Serve Dalgona: Coffee Hot or Cold?

Again, it is absolutely up to you and your personal preference.

I would recommend to prepare and try both versions and find out which one you prefer and love most.

the hot milk version has my preference, because I find that with the cold milk, the foam of coffee down’t dissolve and melt as satisfyingly as I drink, giving the beverage a stronger bitter taste. but again, this is just a matter of personal preference.

In a bowl, place the sugar together with the instant coffee.

Pour the hot water on top of them and start whisking until the mix becomes foaming, fluffy and shiny.

Warm up the milk if necessary and pour into a glass. You can flavor your milk as desired. Add a couple of table spoons of sugar to it for a sweeter taste, or even better add some chocolate powder to it for a mochaccino-like effect.

Place the instant coffee mouse on top of the milk with a spoon.

Sprinkle either icing sugar, cocoa powder or chocolate powder on top as a decoration.

Some like to add a marshmallow too. It’s you choice…!
