The following 2019 Chateauneuf du Pape wines were all tasted in my home office in non-blind tasting conditions.

2019 Patrick Jaume Domaine des Chanssaud – Opening with garrigue, olive tapenade, thyme, spearmint, and kirsch aromas, on the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, soft, forward, and already open with its core of sweet, cherry fruits. You can enjoy this on the young side. Drink From 2022 – 2032. 90 Pts

2019 Patrick Jaume des Chanssaud Blanc – Flowers, citrus, and herbs work together to create a fresh, round, medium-bodied, forward, citrus-filled, spicy wine that will be great on release. Drink From 2022 – 2027. 90 Pts

2019 Paul Autard Chateauneuf-du-Pape – Espresso and sweet, fresh cherries open up the nose. On the palate the wine is soft, plush, round, and polished, leaving you with a big blast of chewy red fruits, smoke, licorice, and a vanilla tint that should integrate with time. A few years of bottle age should make this an even better wine. Drink From 2023 – 2033. 91 Pts

2019 Paul Autard Cuvee Juline – Sporting a dark ruby hue, the wine instantly displays its spice, espresso, smoke, licorice, and black cherry profile without a hitch. The wine is full-bodied, concentrated, round and rich, with a lot of smoky, palate filling density from start to finish. This is going to take some cellaring for all the parts to come together. Made from an equal blend of Grenache and Syrah, the wine is aged in 100% new, French oak barrels for 19 months before bottling. Juline takes its name from Jules Autard and Pauline Autard, the children of the Autard family are one of the most modern-styled wines in all of Chateauneuf du Pape. Drink From 2025 – 2036. 93 Pts

2019 Paul Autard La Cote Ronde – A shot of espresso, smoke, sandalwood and dark red fruits shoots out of the dark, red-colored wine. Rich, fleshy, round, forward and concentrated, there are layers to opulently textured wine that make an impression. If you are seeking the best expression of a modern, styled Chateauneuf du Pape, you came to the right place. The wine was made from blending 50% Grenache and 50% Syrah and was aged in 100% new, French oak barrels. Drink From 2025 – 2037. 94 Pts

2019 Pegau Réservee – Richly colored, the wine exudes black-hued, red fruits, licorice, flowers, herbs, olives and earthy nuances. Full-bodied, meaty, peppery and long, there is density matched with lift awarding you vibrancy, sweet, ripe, spicy wild fruits and a touch of garrigue in the ending, giving you more complexity. This is going to age and evolve for at least 2 decades or longer with ease. The wine is a blend of roughly 80% Grenache and various other AOC allowed grape varieties. Drink From 2026 – 2040. 95 Pts

2019 Pegau Blanc Cuvee Réservee – Spicy white peaches, flowers, orange rind and spice notes get you involved with the wine. On the palate, things heat up with all its layers of crisp, bright, sweet, fresh, ripe, yellow citrus with a shot of green apple in the endnote. Drink From 2022 – 2030. 93 Pts

2019 Pegau Chateauneuf-du-Pape Blanc Cuvee A Tempo – Packed with crushed rocks, lemons, tropical fruits and flowers, at first, the wine appears shy. But it quietly sneaks up to you, and all of a sudden, you find that all of the sweet fruit continues building on your palate, leaving with you with seemingly endless waves of fresh, citrus, white peach, pineapple and the essence of minerality. 2019 Peres de L’Eglise L’Heritage de Pallus – Produced from 100% old vine Grenache, the wine is rich, lush, soft and silky, with freshness and gorgeous purity to all the kirsch and sweet cherries. There is good energy, length and sweetness to the fruits which is already on display on the nose, palate and endnotes. Drink From 2023 – 2037. 92 Pts

2019 Peres de L’Eglise La Genèse de Paulette – Grapefruit, white peach, lemon curd and flowers pop instantly in the nose. On the palate, the wine is rich, fat, juicy and fresh, with a white peach and citrus packed finish. Drink From 2023 – 2031. 92 Pts

2019 Peres de L’Eglise Le Calice de Saint-Pierre Blanc – From a blend of 70% Grenache Blanc, 20% Clairette, 20% Bourboulenc and 5% Roussanne, the wine shows off its tropical accented, spicy citrus character easily. Opulent, rich and fresh, with a fruit-forward character and a blast of yellow citrus in the finish, this will be great on release. Drink From 2022 – 2031. 93 Pts

2019 Pierre Usseglio Chateauneuf-du-Pape – Fresh herbs, spice box, flowers and dark cherries pop easily on the nose. Soft in texture, with layers of luscious sweet cherries, kirsch and peppery dark cocoa on the back end, this is going to be great on release and it should also be able to age for over a decade with ease. Drink From 2022 – 2033. 92 Pts

2019 Pierre Usseglio Chateauneuf-du-Pape Blanc – White peach, flowers and spice, along with honeysuckle and orange rind with freshly squeezed lemon on the back end hit all the right notes. Fresh and tropical, sweet and stony, with a drizzle of honey, you can drink this release or age it a few years for more complexity. Drink From 2022 – 2030. 92 Pts

2019 Pierre Usseglio Cuvee de Mon Aieul – Deep, floral, rich and fragrant, notes of flowers, black raspberries, kirsch, peppery cherries, espresso, thyme and smoke pop with little effort. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, lusciously textured and round, leaving you with layers of sweet, spicy, red berries and herbs. Here you find real sticking power as the wine stays with you on the palate through the endnote. The wine is made with 100% old vine Grenache. Drink From 2024 – 2039. 97 Pts

2019 Pierre Usseglio Reserve Des 2 Freres – Inky dark in color, the wine exudes notes of kirsch liqueur, thyme, flowers, black raspberries, smoke, espresso and peppery herbs. Concentrated, rich and intense, the wine is mouth-coating, yet even with all that power, there is an elegance and sensuality on the palate that steals the show. The finish really sticks with you with its almost endless, seamless layers of fruit. Give it a few years in the cellar to fully come together and for the oak to integrate. This will age quite nicely. Drink From 2025 – 2040. 98 Pts

2019 Pierre Usseglio Reserve Des Deux Freres – With a solid depth of color the wine announces its presence. On the nose and palate, the wine is a non-stop parade of flowers, spice, black, red and tinges of blue fruits, cocoa, licorice, espresso and peppery spice. The finish has real sticking power with its layers of garrigue tinted, kirsch and red plums, luxurious silky textures and vibrant cherries that linger. This is a rich, layered wine that will be better if you lay it down for at least 5 years or so. The wine is made using 100% old vine Grenache. Drink From 2025 – 2040. 99 Pts

2019 Pignan Chateauneuf-du-Pape – Take a touch of licorice, flowers, herbs, earth and kirsch and put it all together and you have the perfume. On the palate, the wine is ripe, fresh, soft and rich, with good balance, energy and length, finishing with a blast of spicy cherries, black raspberry and peppery strawberries. Drink From 2023 – 2036. 92 Pts

2019 Pignan Cuvee Speciale Coralie et Floriane – Ripe, sweet, kirsch and flowers is what you initially notice, followed by peppery herbs and spices. Supple, silky and fresh, with a blast of luscious red fruits hits it just right. The wine is made from 34% Grenache, 33% Mourvedre and 33% Syrah. This will age and evolve quite nicely. Drink From 2023 – 2037. 94 Pts

2019 Pignan Blanc – The reticent nose requires effort before it shows its crisp, yellow fruit and floral profile. Fresh, round and fruity on the palate, this will be just great on release. The wine is made from 40% Grenache Blanc, 20% Roussanne, 10% Bourboulenc, 10% Clairette and other allowable grape varieties. Drink From 2022 – 2029. 92 Pts

2019 de La Presidente Chateauneuf du Pape – Flowers, licorice, candied cherries and spice create the nose. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, soft, round, polished and sweet, with a series of red fruits that carry all the way through. The wine is made from 70% Grenache, 15% Cinsault, 10% Syrah and 5% Mourvedre. Drink From 2022 – 2033. 90 Pts

2019 de La Presidente Nonciature – Savory herbs, olives, and kirsch come through with ease. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, fresh, sweet, and olive-tapenade tinged, with a strong herbal, peppery, meaty, spicy touch to accompany the fresh red berries in the endnote. The wine is made from 60% Grenache, 30% Syrah, and 10% Mourvedre. Drink From 2024 – 2034. 91 Pts

2019 Raymond Usseglio Chateauneuf-du-Pape – Raspberries, herbs, flowers, roasted red plums and peppery kirsch aromatics pop up easily. Medium-bodied, elegant, fresh and refined, the wine focuses on its purity and balance, leaving you with layers of sweet, spicy red berries and pit fruits. Drink it young, or age it a few years, this is a beauty. Drink From 2022 – 2033. 92 Pts

2019 Raymond Usseglio Cuvee Imperiale – Deep, rich, dark and packed with notes of roses, kirsch, cherries, spice and thyme, this is stunning from start to finish. While the wine is intense, concentrated and lusty with its 15% alcohol, there is no sense of heat as all that gorgeous, fresh, sweet, ripe, pure fruit grabs your nose and palate from the start and stays with you all the way through to its seamless finish. The wine is produced from mostly old vine Grenache vines close to 120 years of age and with 2019, the old-vine intensity shines through here, loud and clear. Drink From 2024 – 2040. 96 Pts

2019 Raymond Usseglio La Part des Anges – Deep, dark, meaty, spicy and dense, the wine is intensely concentrated, lush, rich and polished. A bit oaky at the outset, that should fade with age as all the layers of ripe, earthy, spicy, peppery, dark red fruits emerge. The wine is full-bodied, powerful and impressive, but it needs time for the oak to integrate. Give it 6-8 years in the cellar and this could be even better. With its blend of 70% Mourvedre, 20% Grenache and 10% Syrah, this should age quite nicely. Drink From 2025 – 2040. 95 Pts

2019 Raymond Usseglio Les Apotres – With strong floral notes to kick things off, the wine quickly moves to its core of earth, herbs, kirsch and black raspberries. Elegant, soft and silky, medium/full-bodied with a gorgeous sense of purity to its range of fruits, this is going to drink well relatively early. Drink From 2023 – 2036. 96 Pts

2019 Reveirolles Chateauneuf-du-Pape – Open, forward, floral and fruity, with fresh kirsch and sweet cherries that hit all the right notes on the nose and on the round, soft, textured, peppery, black raspberry and olive packed palate. You can enjoy this on release. Drink From 2022 – 2032. 91 Pts

2019 Reveirolles Selection – Licorice, smoky kirsch, bacon, black raspberry and cherry notes open the wine. Medium-bodied with ripe, soft tannins and freshness, the peppery, sweet red fruits, lush textures and length really work well here. The wine was made from 75% Grenache, 15% Syrah and 10% Mourvedre. Drink From 2024 – 2033. 93 Pts

2019 Roger Perrin Chateauneuf-du-Pape Reserve des Vieilles Vignes – A touch of smoke, dash of coffee, and a healthy blast of sweet kirsch hit the spot here. Round, lush, forward, sweet and fruity, the wine has an opulent, modern charm, but nothing is overdone, as everything is in balance and working together here. Forward in style, you can enjoy this on release. Drink From 2022 – 2036. 93 Pts

2019 Roger Perrin de la Berthaude – Smoky, earthy red fruits, espresso, herbs and cherries come through with ease. On the palate, the wine is fresh, lush and polished, with purity, richness and layers of sweet red fruits and peppery spice in the finish. Give it a few years to fully integrate. The wine is made from blending 80% Grenache, 15% Syrah and 5% Mourvedre. Drink From 2024 – 2036. 93 Pts

2019 Roger Sabon Le Secret des Sabon – The best vintage of Le Secret des Sabon since the otherworldly 2001, this is exciting from the moment the wine hits your glass due to its incredible nose packed with flowers, black and red fruits, herbs, peppery spices and thyme. The magic however is on the palate. There is weight, density and, concentration. Even with its wealth of fruit, the wine remains elegant, refined, silky, opulent, balanced, fresh and effortless to drink. The wine is made from seriously old vine Grenache, from mostly old vines that are more than 100 years of age. Clearly, this is in contention for one of the wines of the vintage. Drink From 2028 – 2040. 100 Pts

2019 Roger Sabon Les Olivets – Sweet red fruits galore are found over here. On the palate, the wine is soft, silky, polished, fresh and vibrant with layers of refined, pure red fruits that are already singing. This will deliver loads of early drinking pleasure. Drink From 2022 – 2035. 93 Pts

2019 Roger Sabon Prestige – Without even asking, the kirsch, herbs, forest leaf, white flowers and spiced, dark red fruits show up. On the palate, the wine is even better with all of its soft, silky-textured, elegant, red fruits. The wine is a bit tannic at the moment, so give it a few years and as good as it already is, it is going to be even better! Drink From 2023 – 2037. 95 Pts

2019 Roger Sabon Réserve – With gorgeous floral aromas, black raspberries, kirsch, cherries and a hint of licorice on the nose, the wine is soft, silky, supple, polished, fresh and sweet, finishing with all the delicious, ripe, vibrant, spiced red berries you can handle. There is good lift, energy, tapenade and spice in the endnote. The wine was produced blending 80% Grenache, 10% Mourvedre and 10% Syrah. Drink From 2023 – 2038. 94 Pts

2019 Saint Laurent Chateauneuf-du-Pape – Forward, soft, medium-bodied and already approachable, this is already quite charming with all of its lusciously-textured, ripe, sweet, red fruits. Drink this on the young side. The wine is made from 90% Grenache and 10% Syrah. Drink From 2022 – 2030. 89 Pts

2019 Saint Prefert Charles Giraud – With a fabulous depth of color the wine gets going with a nose of grilled steak, pepper, black and red plums, red and white cherries, kirsch and wet forest notes. There is weight along with balance, freshness, complexity, richness and purity to the fruits that make their presence known on the palate and all the way through to the finish. The wine is made from a blend of 60% old vine Grenache with 40% old vine Mourvedre. This is the last year for the Saint Prefert Charles Giraud, as beginning with the 2020 vintage, all of their cuvees will be blended into one wine. Drink From 2025 – 2040. 99 Pts

2019 Saint Prefert Chateauneuf-du-Pape – With a solid depth of color, the wine is lusciously textured, ripe, sweet, fresh and spicy. There is a gorgeous sense of purity and along with balance and intensity, finishing with a blend of olive tapenade, black raspberries, dark cherries and kirsch. Drink From 2023 – 2036. 94 Pts

2019 Saint Prefert Collection Charles Giraud – I am loving all the perfectly ripe Mourvedre here as it imparts such a cool, peppery, meaty, full-bodied quality to the layers of plums, kirsch, black raspberries and cherries. The wine is dark, deep, opulent and rich, as well as balanced, refined, elegant and plush, with a beautiful sense of symmetry, length and purity in the endnote. You definitely want to allow this wine to age for at least 5 years to allow for more opulence and complexity. Enjoy it for up to 2 decades after that. This is the final vintage of Charles Giraud as starting with the 2020 vintage, all of the single-vineyard wines are going to be blended into one Cuvee. Drink From 2025 – 2040. 99 Pts

2019 Saint Prefert Blanc Chateauneuf-du-Pape – Honeysuckle, citrus and melon, along with hints of yellow tropical fruits create the core of the wine. Plush, fruity and fresh, you find elegant textures and a sweet, white peach and crisp, juicy citrus packed finish. The wine blends 60% Clairette with 40% Roussanne,, You can enjoy this on release. Drink From 2022 – 2029. 93 Pts

2019 Saint Prefert Cuvée Spéciale Vieilles Clariettes – Flowers, honeysuckle, bees wax, peach, vanilla and citrus create the wine. On the palate, the wine is rich, round, ripe, long and intense. There is volume, lift and energy. Rich, dense, concentrated and equally light on its feet, even with all that going on, the wine remains perfectly balanced, fresh, complex and intense. This should age and evolve for up to 2 decades. The wine is made from 100% Old vine Clairettes. 2019 is the first vintage where the wine was not produced in magnum. Drink From 2023 – 2038. 97 Pts

2019 Saint Siffrein Chateauneuf-du-Pape – Flowers, cherries and spice pop to the front of the nose with no effort. On the palate, the wine is soft, lush, round and open, with layers of ripe, sweet red fruits, black cherries and floral characteristics with a touch of spice in the finish. The wine was made from blending 65% Grenache, 15% Syrah, 15% Mourvedre and 5% Cinsault. Drink From 2024 – 2033. 93 Pts

2019 Saint Siffrein Chateauneuf-du-Pape Terre d’Abel – Dark in hue, the wine is floral, fresh, lusciously textured, rich, silky and deep. The fruits are ripe, with good intensity, purity, length and energy, finishing with sweet plums, black cherry and green leafy herbs. The wine was made from 65% Mourvedre, 20% Syrah and 15% Grenache. This should age and evolve quite nicely. Drink From 2024 – 2037. 95 Pts

2019 Saint Siffrein Le Berlou Blanc Chateauneuf-du-Pape – Honeysuckle, white peach, lemon and orange rind pop on the nose. On the palate, the wine is elegant, fresh, medium-bodied, spicy and packed with sweet yellow fruits and spices. Drink From 2022 – 2027. 91 Pts

2019 Saint Siffrein Blanc Chateauneuf-du-Pape – Nuts, flowers, citrus and honeysuckle crowd into the nose. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied forward, fresh, elegant and focused on its light core of white peach and citrus. Drink From 2022 – 2026. 89 Pts

2019 de Saje – Medium-bodied, forward, soft, fresh and refined, this elegant, kirsch and herbal packed wine should drink well on release. The wine was produced using all 13 of the major, AOC, allowable, red grape varieties. Drink From 2022 – 2032. 90 Pts

2019 de Saje Marquis Anselme Mathieu – Medium-bodied soft, elegant, fresh, lighter-styled, kirsch-dominated wine built from mostly Grenache that will be great on release for all its ripe, fresh, sweet, red fruits. Drink From 2022 – 2029. 89 Pts

2019 Santa Duc La Crau Ouest – Silky, elegant, soft and polished, with layers of sweet, ripe, red cherries, kirsch, raspberries, spice and olives which show up on the nose and palate. Pure, energetic, fresh and vibrant, the finish lingers, which is a good thing because all of that ripe Grenache hits all the right notes. The wine was made from 100% old vine Grenache from the La Crau lieu-dit and was aged in terra cotta, Amphora jars. Drink From 2023 – 2037. 95 Pts

2019 Santa Duc Habemus Papam – Elegant, dark, deep, rich, full and spicy, the wine has a solid depth of flavor due to its blend of Grenache, Syrah. and Mourvedre The fruit is dark, meaty, a touch spicy and fresh with touches of peppery spices on top of the ripe black raspberries, and red plums in the long finish. This should age and develop quite nicely. Drink From 2024 – 2036. 96 Pts

2019 Santa Duc Le Pied de Baud – With loads of black raspberries, spicy kirsch, thyme and herbs the wine is soft, silky, fresh and lively. The purity in the fruits stands out here on the mid-palate and in the lush, fruit-filled, elegant finish. This can be difficult to find as less than 400 cases were produced this year. The wine was produced from 80% Grenache, 15% Mourvedre and 5% Cinsault. Drink From 2024 – 2035. 96 Pts

2019 Santa Duc Les Saintes Vierges – I love all the intensity in the nose, with its fresh spring flowers, roses, spice and kirsch. Elegant, medium-bodied, silky, fresh, refined and with a beautiful sense of purity to the fruit, everything is working here, making this effortless to drink. This should age and evolve for 15 or more years, yet be quite easy to taste early in its life. Drink From 2023 – 2038. 97 Pts

2019 Saumades Chateauneuf-du-Pape – I am really liking the strong floral essence on the nose. Silky, fresh, medium-bodied, forward and already a charmer in your glass, the kirsch, cherries, and raspberries are a treat on the palate and in the finish. Drink From 2022 – 2034. 91 Pts

2019 Saumades Blanc Chateauneuf-du-Pape – Honeysuckle, citrus peel and mango come to the forefront quite easily. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, fresh, soft, fruity and already approachable. This will be best in its youth. Drink From 2022 – 2028. 90 Pts

2019 Senechaux Blanc Chateauneuf-du-Pape – White peach, honeysuckle, melon, lemon, vanilla and citrus crown into the perfume. On the palate, the wine is juicy, fresh, lush, round and sweet, with good lift and length. Drink From 2022 – 2029. 92 Pts

2019 Senechaux Chateauneuf-du-Pape – Soft textured, lush, ripe, fresh and sweet, the dark spicy red fruits and peppery, olive tinged edge shines through on the nose, palate and rich finish. The touch of spice and green leafy herbs in the endnote add a lot of complexity. The wine is made using mostly Grenache, with Syrah, Mourvedre, and various other allowable, grape varieties. Drink From 2023 – 2035. 93 Pts

2019 Sixtine Chateauneuf-du-Pape – Lush, rich and vibrant with layers of licorice-infused dark red berries, espresso, smoke, spice and plums permeate the nose. On the palate, the wine is dark, deep, plush and polished, with solid concentration and layers of ripe, deep, round fruits and spice. Give the wine a few years to fully integrate and it will be an even better tasting experience. The wine is a blend of 50% Grenache, 30% Mourvedre and 20% Syrah. Drink From 2024 – 2036. 93 Pts

2019 Sixtine Manus Dei – Forward, fresh, soft, medium-bodied, earthy, charmer with a blast of green olives and cherries on the mid-palate and in the finish. This is ready to drink on release. Drink From 2021 – 2030. 89 Pts

2019 Sixtine Chateauneuf-du-Pape Blanc – Sweet, juicy and fresh, the core of yellow citrus rind, green apples, spice and herbs offers vibrance, lift, and a rich, spicy, fruit-packed finish. Drink From 2022 – 2028. 91 Pts

2019 Solitude – Forward, medium-bodied, silky, soft and fresh with a core of vibrant red berries, flowers and herbs from start to finish. This will drink great on release. Drink From 2022 – 2030. 91 Pts

2019 Solitude (Lançon Pere et Fils) Cornelia Constanza – Ripe, fleshy, soft and loaded with juicy, peppery fruit, fresh spring flowers come through on the nose. On the palate, the wine is round, ripe and expressive with a dusty, earthy quality that adds complexity to the peppery fruits, herbs and olives. There is fabulous intensity in the finish that lingers. The wine made from 100% old vine Grenache, and when I say old, all the vines are more than 100 years of age. Drink From 2024 – 2038. 95 Pts

2019 Solitude (Lançon Pere et Fils) Cuvee Barberini – Spicy, vibrant and loaded with sweet, black, red and white cherries, with a blast of black peppery goodness, the wine is fresh, long, bright and earthy. Made from a blend of 45% Grenache, 45% Syrah and 10% Mourvedre, give this a few years in the cellar to come around. Drink From 2024 – 2035. 93 Pts

2019 Solitude (Lançon Pere et Fils) Vin de la Solitude – The nose starts off with a hint of oak which is almost buried underneath all the sweet, red fruits on the nose. On the palate. the wine is soft, sweet, elegant and refined, leaving you with a gorgeous sense of purity and refinement, which is perfect for all that ripe, fresh kirsch. It’s not going to be easy to find as the production is limited to less than 1,000 bottles and 100 magnums. The wine is made from a blend used at the estate in the 18th century, 30% Counoise, 25% Grenache, 15% Syrah, 15% Mourvedre, 5% Clairette, 5% Bourboulenc, 5% Roussanne and the remainder coming from Clairette Rose and Grenache Blanc and is only available in an antique shaped bottle. Drink From 2024 – 2035. 93 Pts

2019 Solitude Blanc – Honeysuckle, vanilla, citrus, white peach, and toast make up the perfume. On the palate, the wine is fresh, lush, round, fruity and crisp. 2019 Vaudieu Val de Dieu – A fabulous showing here with all of its ripe, fresh, meaty red fruits, spice, smoke and floral elements on the nose and palate. Fresh, ripe, supple, long and complex, the concentrated wine finishes with loads of juicy, sweet kirsch along with touches of spice and herbs in the endnote. 2019 Vieille Julienne Reserve – Combining elegance, power, purity, and complexity, this hits all the right notes from start to finish. The nose displays a floral bouquet along with kirsch, black raspberries, and red plums topped off with thyme, peppery spice, garrigue, and wet earth. The mid-palate is packed with fruit and the finish starts off strong and builds in intensity with its layers of ripe, vibrant, peppery fruits and its gorgeous sense of purity. You should lay this down for 6-7 years before pulling a cork as it is one of those wines that gains complexity in the bottle. The wine is usually made from 90% Grenache, 5% Syrah, and 5% Counoise.
