2019 Saint Emilion Satellite Appellations Guide to all the Best Wines

With some of the same terroir you find at much pricier vineyards in St. Emilion, 2019 Saint Emilion satellite appellations offer a lot of wonderful, silky, fresh, vibrant, complex wines that are already drinking well. If you are not familiar with these Right Bank St. Emilion adjacent estates, you should be! The satellite appellations are where savvy wine consumers find some of the best quality to price ratios in all of Bordeaux!

All of the following 2019 Saint Emilion Satellite Appellation wines from Lussac-St. Emilion, Montagne-St. Emilion, St. Georges-St. Emilion, and Puisseguin-St. Emilion were all tasted in non-blind conditions in my home office.

2019 Barbe Blanche Lussac-St. Émilion – Spicy, plummy,, medium-bodied, forward, early drinking wine with a core of plums cherries, coffee bean and hint of fruit cake to fill things out. Soft, round and fruity, this should be delicious on release. Drink from 2022-2032. 88 Pts

2019 Cap St. George St. Georges-St. Émilion – Black cherries, espresso and red plums show nicely in this soft-textured, supple, fresh, red berry filled wine. The finish is a tad oaky, but there is more than enough fruit here to round things out nicely. Give it a year or two of bottle age and it should be even better. Drink from 2022-2032. 90 Pts

2019 Cap d’Or St. Georges-St. Émilion – Black cherries and flowers are what you initially find. But the part of the wine is the load of ripe, sweet, round, supple textured black cherries and fresh, sweet, plums on the palate with their tints of chocolate, licorice, espresso and that cool hit of crushed stone in the finish. Already approachable, this is going to drink well in its youth. Drink from 2022-2030. 90 Pts

2019 Clarisse Puisseguin-St. Émilion – Soft, fresh, supple and fruity, the wine is medium-bodied, vibrant and easy to drink with all its sweet, cherry charms on the nose, palate and in the finish. Drink from 2022-2029. 89 Pts

2019 Clarisse Vieille Vignes Puisseguin-St. Émilion – Flowers, licorice, smoke and juicy plums create the attractive perfume. On the palate, the wine shows its soft, vibrant, refined, sweet fruits with ease, finishing with supple cherries, plums and a touch of cocoa in the end note. Drink from 2023-2034. 91 Pts

2019 Clos Bertineau Montagne-St. Émilion – Opening with touch of chocolate before moving on to all its plums, cherries and flowers, this 100% Merlot wine is soft, round, plush and polished. You should be able to enjoy this supple, fruit filled wine on release. Drink from 2022-2032. 90 Pts

2019 Clos de Bouard Montagne-St. Émilion – Espresso, smoke, black cherry, dark chocolate and a background note of coconut come alive in the nose. On the palate the wine is lush, round, polished and supple, leaving you with loads of coffee bean, dark cocoa, smoke, licorice, plums and cherries on the mid-palate and in the finish. Drink from 2022-2036. 93 Pts

2019 Clos de Boüard Dame de Boüard Montagne-St. Émilion – Medium-bodied, forward, soft, silky, round and fruity with an ample supply of licorice, dark cherries and cocoa from start to finish. You can enjoy this gem on release. Drink from 2022-2029. 90 Pts

2019 Courlat Cuvée Jean Baptiste Lussac-St. Émilion – Produced from 100% Merlot the wine is medium-bodied, soft, fresh polished, round and supple with a nice floral, mint, spice, red plum and minerality note on the palate that carries all the way through to the finish. This is already quite nice to taste. Drink from 2022-2033. 90 Pts

2019 Couronne Reserve Montagne-St. Émilion – Medium-bodied, fresh, juicy, soft and sweet, with a savory, red berry, licorice, floral and smoke profile, this is going to be easy to like on release. Drink from 2022-2029. 89 Pts

2019 Croix de Rambeau Lussac-St. Émilion – Lighter styled, soft, fresh, red berry and espresso packed wine with a savory edge, chewy fruits and a medium-body that will drink best on release. Drink from 2022-2027. 87 Pts

2019 de Malengin Eve Montagne-St. Émilion – Flowers, licorice, cocoa and spicy plums are easy to find in this medium-bodied, fresh, elegant, forward, soft textured wine. Drink from 2022-2028. 89 Pts

2019 des Laurets Puisseguin-St. Émilion – Forward, earthy, savory red fruits and herbs work well together here in this accessible, fresh, chewy, soft, red plum, cocoa and herb centric wine. You can enjoy this on release for all its soft fruits. Drink from 2022-2028. 88 Pts

2019 des Laurets Baron Edmond Selection Parcellaire Puisseguin-St. Émilion – Plums and underbrush with blackberries crowd into the nose. The wine is medium-bodied, round, forward and fruity with a ripe, polished core of dark, juicy red berries and chocolate in the supple finish. You can enjoy this on release. Drink from 2022-2030. 90 Pts

2019 Emmanuelle de Bouard Lussac-St. Émilion – Medium-bodied, forward, early drinking charmer with nuances of flowers, smoke, cocoa and red fruits. Soft and supple, this is already great to taste. Drink from 2022-2029. 90 Pts

2019 Faizeau Sélection Vieilles Vignes Montagne-St. Émilion – Medium-bodied, round, soft, forward, fruity wine with ample, creamy-textured, dark chocolate covered. black cherries, licorice, espresso and plums. Give it just a year or two to fill out and it will be even better. Drink from 2022-2034. 91 Pts

2019 Guibeau Noe Puisseguin-St. Émilion – Smoke, forest leaf, truffle, crushed stone and red fruits are on the nose. On the palate, you find loads of sweet, supple-textured red and plums with a spicy, savory edge to the fruit in the finish. Perhaps the only 100% Cabernet Franc in the appellation the wine is made from the estates oldest vines. Drink from 2022-2032. 91 Pts

2019 Guibot La Fourvieille Puisseguin-St. Émilion – Medium-bodied, soft textured, fresh, plummy wine with floral nuances and savory, herbal notes in the finish. You can enjoy this easily on release. Drink from 2022-2029. 90 Pts

2019 Haut Bernat Puisseguin-St. Émilion – Medium-bodied, soft, sweet, fresh and polished with a core of savory, red fruits and toasty oak, this is already quite easy to enjoy. Drink from 2022-2030. 90 Pts

2019 L’Anglais Pusseguin-St. Émilion – Medium-bodied, forward, soft, fresh, sweet, cherry and espresso packed wine with touches of mint and forest leaf is already quite charming to enjoy. Drink from 2022-2029. 89 Pts

2019 La Claymore Lussac-St. Émilion – Medium-bodied, soft, fruity, red berry-tinged, forward, early drinking, uncomplicated, lighter styled wine for early drinking pleasure. Drink from 2022-2027. 88 Pts

2019 La Papeterie, Château Montagne-St. Émilion – Flowers, black cherries and plums with touches of spice fill the nose and the medium-bodied palate here. The wine is soft, forward, fresh and silky, with a solid core of kirsch in the finish. Drink from 2022-2031. 90 Pts

2019 La Rose Perrière Lussac-St. Émilion – Much better from the bottle than it was during its barrel tasting, the perfume, with its light cocoa, flowers, cherries and plums is a treat. On the palate, the medium-bodied, soft, fresh, silky wine is a treat thanks to all the sweet, ripe, fresh red fruits and the cool touch of spice and cocoa in the finish. Give it a year or two in the cellar and it will be even better. Drink from 2023-2034. 90 Pts

2019 La Vaisinerie Puisseguin-St. Émilion – Medium-bodied, soft, silky and polished with an elegant, albeit light mid-palate and finish. Still, the fruit is sweet, fresh and soft, making this ready to go on release. Drink from 2022-2027. 88 Pts

2019 Lafaurie Puisseguin-St. Émilion – Medium-bodied, forward, accessible charmer with a core of sweet, earthy, cherries, cocoa and plums for early drinking pleasure. 87 Pts

2019 Les Combes Lussac-St. Émilion – Medium-bodied, soft textured, lighter styled wine with a core of ripe, soft red fruits with a mild touch of herbs. This will be best in its youth for all its sweet red plums. Drink from 2022-2027. 87 Pts

2019 Les Combes Louis Gabriel Lussac-St. Émilion – Medium-bodied, fresh, fruity and floral, with a raspberry and red plum character, this is already quite easy to enjoy, finishing with a sweet mix of polished, sweet, red fruits with a touch of mint in the endnote. This will be best in its youth. Drink from 2022-2028. 88 Pts

2019 Lussac Lussac-St. Émilion – Much better in bottle than in barrel, the wine pops with its espresso, spice, smoke, licorice, incense and red berry core of fruit. Medium-bodied, soft and fresh with loads of silky red berries, touches of cocoa and freshness on the palate and in the finish, this is going to be even better with a year or two of age. Drink from 2022-2033. 90 Pts

2019 Messile-Aubert Montagne-St. Émilion – Medium-bodied, soft, round, forward, fruity and packed with licorice, espresso, mint and dark red fruits, wine is already quite charming and easy to drink due to all of its soft, fresh, sweet, supple fruits. You can enjoy this on release. Drink from 2022-2030. 89 Pts

2019 Reclos de la Couronne Montagne-St. Émilion – Deep in color, here you find coffee bean, black plum, licorice and dark chocolate on the nose. Full-bodied, round, lush and fleshy, the wine leaves you with a blast of dark red fruits and even darker chocolate in the finish. Drink from 2022-2033. 91 Pts

2019 Roc de Calon Montagne-St. Émilion – Chocolate covered, plums, cherries, espresso and herbs pop easily on the nose and palate. Soft, round, polished and loaded with sweet, black cherries, the wine finishes with vibrant red fruits and cocoa. You can enjoy this on release and for at least 12 or more years. Drink from 2022-2032. 90 Pts

2019 Roc de Calon Ecrin Montagne-St. Émilion – The top Cuvee from the property offers a nose with flowers, plums, chocolate, licorice and smoke in the perfume. Lush, round, soft and polished, the wine is loaded with sweet red berries from start to finish, leaving with a nice sweetness of the fruit, espresso, mint and dark cocoa. You can enjoy this on release but it should be better with a year or two of age. Drink from 2023-2033. 92 Pts

2019 Rocher Corbin Montagne-St. Émilion – Soft, polished plums, cherries, cocoa, espresso and plums come through easily on the nose and palate. The wine finishes with loads of ripe, polished fruits and a touch of oak, so give it a year or two in the bottle for everything to integrate and it should be quite the charmer. 2019 Rocher-Gardat Montagne-St. Émilion – Medium-bodied, fresh and fruity with a core of sweet, ripe red cherries and hint of espresso on the mid-palate and in the finish. You should find in this forward, already fun-to-taste wine. Drink from 2022-2029. 89 Pts

2019 Roudier Montagne-St. Émilion – The nose, with its espresso, plum, licorice and spice is prefect for the medium-bodied wine, finishing with soft, fresh, sweet, red fruits with earthy overtones and cocoa. Drink from 2022-2028. 87 Pts

2019 Tour Bayard Montagne-St. Émilion – Licorice, flowers, spicy cherries and cocoa provide the nose and palate. Medium-bodied, fresh, soft, supple and sweet, the finish allows all those plums and chocolate to linger. Drink from 2023-2033. 92 Pts

2019 Tour Bayard L’Angelot Montagne-St. Émilion – Blackberries, plums, cherries, cocoa, espresso and allspice notes create the perfume. Plush and polished with ample richness and silky tannins, and a dark cocoa infused plummy finish. This is a fabulous wine with concentration and character that can be enjoyed in its youth or aged and it sells for a fair price. Drink from 2023-2034. 93 Pts

2019 Tour Perruchon Cuvee Prestige Lussac-St. Émilion – Espresso, flowers, and red fruits combine to create a medium-bodied, soft textured, fresh, supple textured red berry filled charmer that will be perfect for early drinking, fruity pleasure. Drink from 2022-2032. 90 Pts

2019 Tour Perruchon L’Exception 1600 Lussac-St. Émilion – With an earthy and red cherry file, the medium-bodied wine also comes with licorice, flowers and raspberry accents for soft textured, early drinking pleasure. The wine comes in an antique shaped bottle that while it looks cool on your table, it is hard to fit into your standard wine rack. Drink this on the young side. Drink from 2022-2028. 88 Pts

2019 Vieux-Chateau-Palon Montagne-St. Émilion – Vanilla, smoke, espresso and dark cherries with a savory edge shine with little effort already. The wine is medium-bodied, plush and polished with chewy tannins and a blast of spicy coffee notes to accompany the fruits in the finish, this will be just great to taste on release. Drink from 2022-2033. 90 Pts
